"GOOD GRIEF !"

"The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away."  Somehow Job sounds better in the King James version than in any of our Catholic translations.  That old suffix seems to add dignity, authority, to what in any translation is a totally absurd idea.  But when you are mourning the death of a child, you need to find some consolation, however meager, some rationalization, however meaningless, to put up with the shattering loss and the unbearable pain.  There is no such thing as good grief.

Try the Douai Reims, Frank. A Catholic translation, better than King James, and it has all 73 books. Many of us are going to it.



We Catholics find the consolidation in belief in eternal life, and for a child, almost certain heaven. You call this pie in the sky, I call it reality.

I tell you, Frank, you can make your own problems, by disbelief, and then lament them, ignoring that God gives us the solutions, and opportunities to grow, if we don't turn from Him.

I did have a younger sister die at 16 from Lukemia and we have a 12 year old grandson, who is severely brain damaged from birth, totally incapable. His parents don't blame God but are thankful for the privilege of living with, and caring for a future saint, incapable of sin. They are financially threadbare, but no complaints.

It depends on our disposition and beliefs.
